BMA tightens supervision of childcare facilities in response to incident in Nong Bua Lamphu

Thursday's tragedy in Nong Bua Lamphu has prompted the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to tighten its oversight of childcare facilities in the capital. This is intended to reduce the fears of parents and improve the safety of children.

BMA spokesman Ekwaranyu Amrapan said BMA law enforcement officials will step up their oversight of childcare facilities. There will be constant coordination with the operators of childcare facilities, and exercises will be carried out to respond to incidents.

He said childcare facilities that need help should contact local police and BMA law enforcement officers. Ekwaranyu said the BMA is also considering organizing training to respond to incidents, including attacks, in childcare facilities.

The spokesman said the schools under the jurisdiction of the BMA have taken security measures, such as employing security personnel around the clock. Outsiders are prohibited from entering the schools during class hours. Law enforcement officers and police officers from the BMA also regulate traffic at the schools in the morning and afternoon. Their presence also contributes to safety in schools.

Mr. Ekwaranyu said that each school has a designated security area where students are evacuated in emergencies. Each school also has a protocol for requesting help from other bodies in the area, such as the military, police and health facilities.
