Suvarnabhumi Airport punishes taxi driver for forging fare documents,

Suvarnabhumi Airport punishes taxi driver for forging fare documents, not turning on meter. Cabby banned from serving airport.

The Suvarnabhumi Airport has taken a punitive action against a taxi driver for forging fare documents to charge a flat rate of service from the airport and not activating the meter.
The airport has acted in response to the press and social media on a case of Taiwanese tourists being charged a lump sum fare by the taxi driver who deceived them that was the charge set by the airport.
The taxi driver also showed graphic displaying fixed fares according to the distance with the airport's logo affixed on it.
The airport's authorities have summoned the driver for investigation based on the evidence and the testimony of the driver himself.

The driver has then admitted to committing an actual offence. The airport has therefore decided to impose the maximum penalty by cancelling the membership code of the taxi driver at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
That resulted in the driver was no longer allowed to take a taxi to pick up passengers at the airport from 17 March 2023 onwards.
In addition, the airport has sent information on the offence to the Department of Land Transport to consider further penalties for the driver whose act is tarnishing the reputation of the airport and affecting the tourism image of Thailand.
The airport also clarified that the 50-baht surcharge imposed by taxis leaving the airport does not go to the airport as some media suggested.

The airport points out that according to the announcement of the Department of Land Transport, Ministry of Transport, that surcharge will be paid to taxi drivers registered with the airport only.
The airport is only facilitating taxi services on its site, in terms of providing space, investing in management system as well as arranging staff to facilitate such services without earning any income from the operation.
Meanwhile, Suvarnabhumi Airport has taken steps to prevent problems arising from taxi drivers not turning on the meters or charging a lump sum fare that exceeds the legal limits.
The airport has despatched a monitoring team to conduct a random check on taxis picking up passengers at the airport's taxi ranks around the clock.

All taxi drivers who have picked up passengers must turn on the meter every time when passengers are in.
However, passengers who find any taxi drivers imposing a flat fare rate are urged to lodge a complaint at the Public Taxi Service Centre, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Tel. 0 2132 0360, or the Public Vehicle Passenger Protection Centre, Department of Land Transport, call 1584, or via Email: suvarnab_suggestion@airportthai.co.th.
Passengers are advised keep the taxi fare ticket slip for quick and easy tracking and inspection.
